GORGONS

2018

The Gorgons series consists of a set of four sculptures created with the aid of artificial intelligence. StyleGan algorithms were trained to generate sculptures in Greco-Roman styles and African masks. Then, the algorithm responsible for creating the masks was fed the database of sculptures, while the algorithm trained to create sculptures received the database with African masks. The resulting images combine features from both datasets, representing two matrices of thought: African and Western. Four images from those generated by the artificial intelligence algorithm were selected (two masks and two sculptures) and modeled and printed in 3D. The finishing included restoration techniques, giving the pieces a realistic touch to these archaeological objects from a future that never existed.
